Panchakarma
Cleansing

A time-honored approach to purification and rejuvenation, refined over 5,000 years to restore balance and support long-term vitality.

What is Panchakarma?

The purpose of Panchakarma is to balance the doshas (bio-energies), tissues, and physiological systems of the body. It utilizes cleansing herbs and therapies that help loosen, bind, extract, and flush out endogenous toxins called ama (meaning "undigested").

The buildup of ama from poor digestion, circulation, and elimination is the primary cause of disease. As toxins collect, tissues degenerate, waste passage is blocked, and regulatory functions weaken—causing symptoms that affect both body and mind.

"Panchakarma must be performed by a knowledgeable and well-trained Ayurvedic practitioner. Every person is unique, requiring a customized program based on age, season, immunity level, and toxin presence."

The Five Steps of Panchakarma

A systematic approach to deep cleansing and rejuvenation

1

Preparation (Purva Karma)

This phase involves eating simple, nourishing foods such as kitchari, along with taking medicated ghee (ghee cooked with specific herbs), which begins detoxification by lubricating and ripening tissues to loosen impurities. This step is done at home with self-massage and recommended herbs and oils taken internally.

2

Body Treatments (Snehana & Swedana)

Performed by our trained practitioner to prepare the body for toxin elimination. The classical duo—Abhyanga (a full-body application of warm herbal oils) plus Swedana (herbal steam)—are performed for several days. Shirodhara (warm oil poured over the forehead) may also be recommended to calm Vata and Pitta and relieve stress.

3

Elimination (Pradhana Karma)

The process of eliminating toxins using gentle herbal tea or oil enemas (basti) or virechana (gentle purging through the GI tract using internal herbs). These supportive Ayurvedic practices are suggested based on your individual needs and can be done at home.

4

Reintroduction of Food (Samsarjana Krama)

Slow reintroduction of food to rebuild digestive fire. After cleansing, digestion weakens due to excessive dosha elimination. Food gradually changes from liquid to semi-solid to solid to normal—preventing new toxin formation.

5

Rejuvenation (Praschat Karma & Rasayana)

The process that restores strength after impurities are removed. Rasayana means "that which promotes longevity by preventing aging and making the body young again." You'll receive guidance on balancing foods, herbs, and lifestyle changes to build healthy tissues and strengthen immunity.
